Why low difficulty?
Keywords with a difficulty below 30 are accessible for smaller websites. You need fewer backlinks to appear on page 1.
What is the opportunity score?
The opportunity score calculates the ratio of search volume to difficulty. High volume + low difficulty = high score = fastest path to organic traffic.
How do I use these keywords?
Write one article per keyword. BoltSEO automatically generates SEO-optimised articles for all your keyword opportunities and publishes them on your website.
What is a keyword opportunity?
A keyword opportunity is a search term with enough demand to be worth writing for, and little enough competition that a smaller site can realistically reach page one. Both halves matter: volume without a winnable difficulty is a vanity target, and low difficulty without volume is a page nobody reads.
Most keyword tools hand you everything they can find and leave the judgement to you. This one applies the filter first — difficulty below 30, volume above 100 searches a month — so what comes back is the shortlist rather than the raw list.
The third filter is relevance. A term only counts as an opportunity if it belongs to your business, which is why the tool reads your domain and works out your niche before it starts looking.
Opportunity keywords vs keyword research
Keyword research is the broad exercise: gather every term related to your market and record what each one gets searched. It produces a spreadsheet, often thousands of rows long, on which every term is technically a candidate.
Opportunity keywords are what survives once you filter that list by whether you could actually win. The distinction matters, because the highest-volume terms are almost always held by sites with a decade of backlinks behind them. Chasing those is how small sites spend a year publishing and never rank.
If you are starting close to zero, work the opportunity list first. The rankings you earn there are what eventually make the competitive terms reachable.
How the opportunity score is calculated
The opportunity score is the ratio between monthly search volume and keyword difficulty, normalised onto a 0–100 scale. High volume against low difficulty lands near the top; either one on its own pulls the score down.
As a rule of thumb, above 70 is worth writing this month, 40–70 is a solid second wave, and below 40 usually means the volume is too thin to repay the effort even where the term is easy to rank for.
Treat the score as a running order, not a promise. It tells you which of your own candidates to start with; it says nothing about how your keywords compare to those in a different market.
A worked example
This is the kind of output a small accountancy firm gets. The tool read the homepage to detect the niche, expanded it into seed terms, then checked each one against live DataForSEO volume and difficulty.
| Keyword | Volume | Difficulty | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| how to calculate corporation tax | 880 | 18 | 92 |
| small business accountant cost | 590 | 22 | 81 |
| vat return deadline 2026 | 480 | 14 | 88 |
| sole trader or limited company | 1,300 | 31 | 74 |
| accountant london | 2,400 | 58 | 39 |
The last row is the instructive one. “accountant london” has by far the most volume and is the term the firm most wants — but at difficulty 58 it sits behind established directories, so it scores lowest. The four above it are where the traffic actually comes from in the first six months.
Frequently asked questions
Is the keyword opportunities finder free?
Yes. Enter a domain and an email address and you get ten opportunity keywords with volume, difficulty, intent and score. No account, no card, no trial period.
Where does the data come from?
Search volume and keyword difficulty come from DataForSEO, which draws on live clickstream and SERP data. Detecting your niche and expanding it into seed keywords is done by AI reading your website.
Why does it return only ten keywords?
Ten is roughly a quarter of writing for most small businesses, and a list of five hundred is a list nobody acts on. The filters are deliberately strict so the result is short enough to use.
What counts as low competition?
A difficulty below 30 on a 0–100 scale. At that level ranking is driven mainly by matching search intent and covering the topic properly, rather than by how many domains link to you.
Does it work in languages other than English?
Yes. The tool detects the language of your website and queries volume data for the matching market, so a Dutch, German or French domain gets keywords in that language.
What do I do with the keywords once I have them?
Write one article per keyword, matching the intent shown in the intent column. BoltSEO can do that automatically — it writes each article in your brand voice and publishes it to WordPress, Shopify or Webflow.
