BoltSEO

Ahrefs alternative

An Ahrefs alternative for getting content published

Ahrefs is a superb research tool, and that is usually the problem. Research tools hand you a list. If nobody at your company has time to turn that list into published pages, a better list does not help.

What Ahrefs is for, and what this is for

Ahrefs is built around an index — of links, of keywords, of what ranks where. Its job is to answer questions accurately, and it does that well enough that most of the industry relies on it.

BoltSEO is built around output. It reads your site to work out what your business does, picks a keyword you can realistically rank for, writes the article to match your existing voice, links it into what you have already published, and puts it live.

Neither replaces the other cleanly. If your bottleneck is knowing, use a research tool. If your bottleneck is doing, a research tool will not fix it no matter how good its data is.

The link-data question

Ahrefs' backlink index is the main reason people pay for it, and BoltSEO has nothing comparable. If you do outreach, audit link profiles or sell link building, keep the tool that has the index — this is not a substitute.

Where it matters less than people expect is early on. A site with little authority is not going to win by analysing competitor links; it wins by having relevant pages worth linking to at all. That ordering is the argument for a publishing tool first and a link tool later.

What changes day to day

The visible difference is what happens without you. A research subscription does nothing between logins. A publishing pipeline produces a page on a schedule whether or not you opened it that month.

That cuts both ways, which is why auto-publishing is off by default and most people run it in review mode for the first month before trusting it.

Which one you actually want

Being direct about this, because the wrong choice wastes a year either way.

Keep the research tool

  • Link building or outreach is part of your work
  • You audit competitor backlink profiles
  • You have writers who need briefs, not drafts
  • SEO is somebody's actual job title
  • You need historical ranking data

A publishing pipeline fits better

  • You have the plan and never execute it
  • Content stalls between research and publishing
  • One person runs marketing alongside everything else
  • You sell in Dutch, German or French
  • You would rather have pages than dashboards

Frequently asked questions

Does BoltSEO have a backlink index?

No. That is Ahrefs' core asset and we do not have anything comparable. If backlink data is what you are paying for, this is not the tool to switch to.

Is it cheaper?

We do not quote competitor pricing here, because tiers change and a stale figure is worse than none. BoltSEO's pricing is public and starts free; compare it against your actual current invoice.

Do I have to stop using my current tool?

No, and plenty of people do not. Rank tracking and backlink data are things BoltSEO does not try to replace. What it replaces is the gap between knowing what to write and having it published.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, and it stays free: three articles a month, one website, no card. It exists so you can judge the writing before paying for it, which is the only part of this decision that matters.

Does it work outside English?

English, Dutch, German and French, with keyword data pulled for each market rather than translated from English. That gap is the main reason a Belgian or German business ends up dissatisfied with a US-built platform.
